an Duong Thanh is one of Vietnam’s most prominent contemporary painters, celebrated for her ability to fuse European post-impressionist techniques with traditional Vietnamese sensibilities. A graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, she spent many years living and working in Sweden, which heavily influenced her mastery of light and color. Her work often features expressive, fluid brushstrokes and a vibrant palette, capturing subjects ranging from delicate lotus flowers and ancient Hanoi streets to emotive portraits and landscapes.

Beyond her personal practice, she is recognized as a significant cultural ambassador, having held over 80 solo exhibitions worldwide and received numerous international awards for her contributions to the arts.

I had the chance to meet her at her solo exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, 2024, then meet her again at her private museum in April 2026. So I asked her to let me photograph her at her studio space in the museum.
